In Hindu religion, the day of Makar Sankranti is considered very sacred which symbolizes the Uttarayan of the Sun. According to astrology, as much as charity and bathing are important on this day, it is also advised to avoid certain activities. A small mistake can spoil your luck for the whole year.
In the year 2026, the festival of Makar Sankranti is coming with new hopes and happiness. Sun’s entry into Capricorn is not only a sign of change of season but it is also the time of beginning of auspicious works. According to religious beliefs and scriptures, it is mandatory to follow some special rules and regulations on the day of Sankranti. If you ignore these rules, you may have to face financial crisis and mental stress.
Consuming food without bathing: On the day of Makar Sankranti, there is a tradition of bathing in holy rivers or mixing Ganga water at home. According to the scriptures, consuming food without taking bath on this day is considered inauspicious. By doing this, the person does not get the blessings of Sun God and poverty prevails.
Tamasic food and intoxication: On this auspicious occasion, one should completely avoid consumption of tamasic foods like meat, alcohol, garlic and onion. The day of Sankranti is a symbol of righteousness. Consuming intoxication on this day has inauspicious effects of Sun and Saturn in the horoscope which hinders work.
Use of abusive words and discord: Control your speech on Sankranti. Do not insult any poor, helpless or elderly person. Due to quarrel or discord in the house, Goddess Lakshmi gets angry and the blessings of the house stop.
Tulsi and cutting of trees: According to religious beliefs, cutting or pruning of trees is prohibited on the day of Sankranti. Especially basil leaves should not be plucked. Doing so is considered disrespect to nature and the gods.
Insulting charity: Charity has special significance on Sankranti. If a beggar comes to your door, do not return him empty handed. Donate sesame, jaggery or grains as per your capacity. Having ego in mind while donating makes the virtue void.
The festival of Makar Sankranti is a festival of reverence and faith. By following these simple rules, you can not only avoid defects but also bring happiness and prosperity in your life with the blessings of Sun God.
