travel-advisory: The emerging security crisis in Iran has created a stir in the global aviation sector. After Iran closed its airspace, the speed of many international flights passing through India has stopped. This decision has had the biggest impact on India’s major airlines Air India, IndiGo and SpiceJet. Giving priority to the safety of passengers, these three companies have issued travel alerts and advisories.

Big decision taken due to security crisis

The situation in Iran remains tense. Amid growing concerns over security, the Iranian administration decided to temporarily close its airspace. After this decision, many flights going towards Europe, Middle East and America have had to adopt alternative routes. In some cases, flights have had to be canceled due to non-availability of longer routes.

Indian Airlines issued travel alert

Soon after the closure of Iran airspace, Indian Airlines shared information through its official X account and website to alert passengers. Airlines clarified that this situation is beyond their control, but necessary steps are being taken keeping in mind the safety of passengers. Passengers have been requested to check the status of their flight before going to the airport.

What did Air India say?

Air India said in its advisory that due to the closure of Iran airspace, many of its international flights are being operated through other routes. Due to these alternative routes, the duration of flights has increased, due to which delays are natural. Air India also clarified that a decision has been taken to cancel flights on routes where safe diversion is not possible at present.

The airline has requested passengers to check the status of their flights on the official website of Air India or through customer support. The company said that the safety of passengers and crew is their top priority and they regret the inconvenience caused.

IndiGo status and options for passengers

IndiGo also confirmed the closure of Iran airspace and said that some of its international flights have been affected. The airline said its operations team is continuously evaluating the situation. Affected passengers are being given options like flexible rebooking and refund so that they face minimum inconvenience.

IndiGo also said that the current situation is unprecedented and beyond the control of the airline. Appealing to the passengers for cooperation, it has been said that to avoid crowd at the airport, they must check the flight status before travelling.

What advice did SpiceJet give to the passengers?

SpiceJet has also issued a travel advisory due to the Iran airspace closure. The airline has asked passengers to check their flight information on the SpiceJet website or 24×7 helpline numbers. According to the airline, the timings and routes of some flights have been changed, while some flights have been canceled due to operational reasons.

SpiceJet has assured that the affected passengers are being provided re-booking or necessary assistance as per their convenience.

Which routes are most affected?

According to aviation experts, the closure of Iran airspace has most affected flights from India to Europe, Middle East and North America. Iran’s airspace is considered an important corridor on these routes. Adopting alternative routes not only increases flight time but also increases fuel consumption and operational costs.
