The global controversy regarding Elon Musk's AI chatbot Grok is deepening. After Indonesia-Malaysia, now the Philippines government has blocked Grok's website. It is alleged that this AI was making obscene and objectionable pictures of people. The Philippines government has expressed deep concern especially over the content related to children. Now the Philippines is preparing to discuss this issue with social media platform X.
According to Bloomberg report, the Philippines government says that Grok's ability to create pornographic content has become a major threat. According to Renato Paraiso, head of the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Centre, the government wants obscene and especially child pornography-related features to be removed from Grok. For this reason, Internet service providers have been ordered to block Grok's website. The government believes that this step was necessary for the safety of citizens.
Although Grok's website has been blocked, this AI chatbot can still be used on the social network X. Renato Paraiso said that this is the biggest challenge, because the government can only block websites. It is not currently easy to block access to Grok on the X platform. For this reason, the Philippines government wants to have direct talks with the representatives of X.
Elon Musk's company xAI has said that it is shutting down the ability to create indecent photos of real people from Grok. However, X did not immediately give any official response on this matter. When xAI was asked about the Philippines decision, the company simply responded with Legacy Media Lies. This reaction has further fueled the controversy.
Before Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia have also taken action against Grok. Indonesia said that this step has been taken to protect women, children and society from fake pornographic content created by AI. Malaysia has even warned of legal action against X and xAI. It is clear from this that the strictness of Asian countries on Grok and AI related content is increasing rapidly.
