Should God be worshiped in one form or in many forms? Premanand Maharaj’s clear and simple answer

Almost every house in India has a small temple. There are many forms of God in that temple, Ram, Krishna, Shiva, Hanuman, Durga, Lakshmi and many more gods and goddesses. Every morning and evening, lamps are lit, incense sticks are lit and worship is done with full devotion. But a question often arises in the mind, will the more forms of God we worship, the more results we will get? A devotee also asked the same question to the famous saint of Vrindavan, Premanand Maharaj. Maharaj smiled as soon as he heard the question and then gave this answer.

Does worshiping multiple forms of God yield more results?

When the devotee asked that there are many idols of God in the home temple and Mata Ji worships all of them, would this give more results, Premanand Maharaj replied very calmly. Maharaj said, “There is only one God, His forms are many. No matter how many forms you worship, you will get the same result.”

If the price is divided then the fruit also gets reduced.

Premanand Maharaj said in clear words that the real basis of worship is not numbers, but emotions. If the mind does not remain at one place, the effect of worship also reduces. If we worship many Gods every day, but are unable to develop a deep connection with any one, then that worship becomes just a habit. Maharaj explained that just as love is for a human being, similarly love for God also goes deeper with a form.

God is one, forms are different

Maharaj explained the matter by giving an example. He said that God appears in different forms, but his power is the same. Just as some people call water Jal, some Neer, some Paani, the names are different, but the thirst quenched by all is the same. Similarly, Lord Ram, Krishna, Shiva, Narayan are all forms of the same Supreme Soul. Whatever be the form of worship, if the feeling is true, then God is found.

Example of Ramakrishna Paramhansa, Tulsidas and Gopis

Premanand Maharaj gave the example of saints to further clarify his answer. He told that Ramakrishna Paramahamsa worshiped Mother Kali. He saw all the Gods in Mother Kali. Tulsidas ji worshiped Lord Ram. He saw Siyaram everywhere. Gopis considered Shri Krishna as their everything. He saw only Shyam everywhere. The feelings of all of them were fixed at one place, hence their devotion was very deep and they found God quickly.

Why is one form of worship considered more effective?

According to Premanand Maharaj, when we adopt any one form of God, our mind does not wander. We chant the same name, meditate on the same form and gradually a relationship with God is formed. It is important for us to understand that worship is not for show, but for peace of mind. By worshiping one form the mind remains stable and devotion becomes stronger.
