Notorious thief arrested in attempted theft case in Karkala

Karkala: Police have arrested a notorious thief in connection with an attempted theft at the Bajagoli Bunts Credit Cooperative Society in Karkala taluk.

The accused has been identified as Suresh Poojary, a resident of Nitte village. Police said several theft cases are already registered against him at various police stations, including Karkala Town, Karkala Rural, Padubidri, Belthangady, Udupi Town and even in Goa.

According to the police, the accused allegedly broke open the lock of the cooperative society and attempted to commit theft on January 16. Following the incident, a case was registered at the Karkala Rural Police Station under Crime No. 04/2026, invoking Sections 331(2), 305 and 62 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

The accused was produced before the court and has been remanded to judicial custody.

The arrest operation was carried out under the leadership of Karkala Sub-Divisional Deputy Superintendent of Police Prabhu D T and Karkala CPI Manjappa. The team included Karkala Rural PSI Prasanna M S, PSI Sundar, ASI Prakash, ASI Sundar Gowda, Head Constables Rudresh and Chandrashekar, Police Constables Santosh and Mantesh, along with Dinesh from the district CDR unit.
