Tragic Road: Road accidents and workplace mishaps continue to raise serious safety concerns in and around Pune, as two separate fatal incidents were reported within a short span of time. These unfortunate events claimed the lives of two young individuals and left families and communities in deep shock. Authorities have initiated investigations in both cases, while the incidents have once again brought attention to traffic discipline and industrial safety norms.

A tragic road accident occurred on the Pune–Wagholi Road near the Serum Institute area, resulting in the death of a 20-year-old youth. The deceased, identified as Aditya Balasaheb Shelke, was traveling on a motorcycle with his friend when their vehicle collided with a tempo traveller bus. The incident took place close to a petrol pump near the Serum Institute, a location known for frequent traffic movement.
According to available information, Aditya Shelke and his friend Manohar Anna Ransing were commuting from Hadapsar towards Wagholi via Manjari Road. They were reportedly on their way to Vertiv Energy Private Limited after refueling their motorcycle. As they exited the petrol pump, a tempo traveller bus coming from the Manjari side rammed into their bike with considerable force.
The impact of the collision was severe, leading to Aditya Shelke’s death on the spot. His friend Manohar Ransing sustained injuries in the accident and was immediately rushed to a private hospital for medical treatment. Doctors confirmed that he is currently undergoing treatment, and his condition is being closely monitored.
Following the accident, local police took swift action. The driver of the tempo traveller bus, identified as Mauli Ambhore, aged 23, was taken into custody for questioning. The Manjari police have registered a case and are conducting a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident, including factors such as speed, negligence, and road conditions at the time of the collision.
The deceased, Aditya Balasaheb Shelke, was a resident of Kedgaon in Daund taluka, while the injured survivor Manohar Ransing hails from Nimgaon Mhalungi in Shirur taluka. Friends and family members described Aditya as a young and hardworking individual with aspirations for a better future. His sudden demise has left his family devastated.
In another unrelated but equally tragic incident, a 25-year-old construction worker lost his life after being run over by a cement mixer at a residential project site on the Pashan-Baner Link Road. The deceased has been identified as Anil Umashankar Yadav, a native of Uttar Pradesh who was currently residing at the labor camp of the Lovins Athena Tower project.
The accident reportedly occurred during routine construction work when the cement mixer, operating within the project premises, struck Anil Yadav. He suffered fatal injuries and succumbed on the spot, raising serious questions about safety measures and supervision at construction sites.
Police have registered a case against the cement mixer operator, Deepakkumar Upendra Yadav, aged 22. He is a resident of Chande village near the HP Petrol Pump area in Mulshi. The complaint was filed by Mahammad Saddam Anwar, 28, also a resident of Chande village, at the Baner police station.
Officials stated that preliminary investigations suggest possible negligence and failure to follow safety protocols at the construction site. Further inquiries are underway to assess whether proper training, safety equipment, and operational guidelines were in place at the time of the incident.
Both incidents underscore the urgent need for stricter enforcement of road safety rules and workplace safety regulations. In densely populated and rapidly developing areas like Pune and its surrounding regions, increasing traffic congestion and large-scale construction activities have significantly raised the risk of accidents.
Experts emphasize that preventive measures such as driver awareness, strict monitoring of commercial vehicles, and adherence to occupational safety standards can help reduce such tragedies. Authorities have urged citizens, vehicle operators, and construction companies to prioritize safety and responsibility to prevent further loss of life.
