Rajasthan Voter List: The political atmosphere in Rajasthan has become tense after serious allegations were raised by the Congress party regarding the ongoing revision of the electoral rolls. The party has accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party of attempting to manipulate the voter list through unlawful means, claiming that this process is aimed at weakening opposition support. According to Congress leaders, the issue goes beyond administrative irregularities and represents a direct threat to democratic values in the state.
The controversy emerged during the Special Intensive Revision process of the electoral rolls in Rajasthan. After this exercise, a draft voter list was released, which reportedly showed that approximately 45 lakh voters were categorized as absent, shifted, or deceased. Following this publication, citizens were invited to submit claims and objections within a stipulated timeframe. Initially, the process appeared to be functioning smoothly, with no major disputes reported.
Congress leaders have alleged that the situation changed abruptly after senior BJP leadership visited Rajasthan in early January. They claim that following this visit, a large-scale operation was launched to add or remove names from the voter list in a manner that disproportionately affected opposition supporters. Data cited from official sources allegedly indicates a significant imbalance between applications submitted by BJP-linked booth-level agents and those submitted by Congress representatives.
According to the claims made by the Congress leadership, hundreds of booth-level agents associated with the BJP filed thousands of applications seeking removal of voter names, while Congress agents submitted far fewer such requests. This numerical disparity has been presented as evidence of a coordinated effort to influence the electoral base. Congress leaders argue that such actions undermine the fairness of the voter list revision process.
The Election Commission’s decision to extend the deadline for filing claims and objections has also drawn criticism. While the extension was officially justified as an administrative necessity, Congress leaders have expressed suspicion, alleging that the additional time was misused to further remove names of voters aligned with opposition ideology. They argue that this extension facilitated targeted actions in specific constituencies.
Several assembly segments reportedly witnessed an unusually high number of applications for voter name removal within a short span of time. Congress representatives have highlighted figures from multiple regions to support their claim that the process was neither organic nor voter-driven. They assert that such mass submissions are inconsistent with standard electoral procedures and warrant independent scrutiny.
One of the most serious allegations involves the use of forged signatures on voter removal forms. Congress leaders claim that several Booth Level Officers have publicly stated that signatures attributed to them were falsified. It has also been alleged that election officials faced undue pressure to accept questionable forms, with implicit threats related to their service conditions.
The Congress has further alleged that the alleged operation focused on removing the names of elderly voters, dissatisfied citizens, and individuals perceived to be critical of the current government. According to these claims, the strategy was designed to suppress dissenting voices rather than correct genuine inaccuracies in the voter list.
While Congress has described the situation as an attack on democratic principles, the BJP has dismissed these allegations as politically motivated and baseless. The ruling party maintains that the voter list revision is being conducted strictly according to established rules and that opposition parties are attempting to create confusion ahead of elections.
The draft electoral roll for Rajasthan was published in mid-December 2025, and a significant number of voter names were removed from the initial electorate count. Citizens have been given additional time to file claims and objections, with hearings and verifications scheduled to continue until early February. The final electoral roll is expected to be published in mid-February, following the completion of all procedural reviews.
