Dhaka, 20 January 2026: The dispute between Bangladesh and the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding the venue of the upcoming T20 World Cup is more acute. Bangladesh’s sports advisor Asif Nazrul has now come into the field in this matter and has warned the ICC and made it clear that Bangladesh will not succumb to any kind of undue pressure.

Recently ICCA had given a strongly worded ultimatum to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) that if Bangladesh team wants to play in the World Cup, then they will have to play in India only. If Bangladesh is not ready for this, then another team (possibly Scotland) will be included in the tournament in their place. ICCA has given time till January 21 to BCB to take a decision in this regard.

Reacting to this ultimatum of ICC, Asif Nazrule adopted an aggressive stance in a press conference. He said, “We have not received any official information regarding the inclusion of Scotland in our place. If the ICC puts pressure on us or imposes any unfair conditions against the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), we will never accept it.”

Nazrule further gave an example and said, “There have been many instances when India refused to go to Pakistan and ICC had to change the venue. We have also requested for the change of venue due to logical reasons. We cannot be forced to play in India through unreasonable pressure.”

This controversy is believed to have arisen due to the current political situation and security in Bangladesh. Bangladeshi officials are demanding to play at some other neutral venue instead of India, whereas ICC is no longer in a mood to wait any longer in this matter. Cricket lovers will keep an eye on what point this dispute reaches after the deadline of 21 January.
