Kolkata: The International Cricket Council (ICC) is fully engaged in ensuring security arrangements for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Following questions raised by Bangladesh on the security of the tournament in India, the ICC has decided to take a serious action on the subject. In this connection, ICC members will visit the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata on Thursday.
The main objective of this visit is to review the security, safety and logistics arrangements. The review is being conducted after the ICC rejected Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) demand to change the venue.
An important reason for ICC’s review of Eden Gardens is that Bangladesh team has to play its three group stage matches in this stadium under the 2026 T20 World Cup. Bangladesh’s campaign will start from February 7, and it has to play its first three matches at Eden Gardens.
If Bangladesh participates in this tournament, it will have to play three group stage matches at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The team’s first match will be against West Indies on 7 February, while the second match will be held against Italy on 9 February. The third match will be with England on 14 February. In this context, ICC’s Eden Garden tour is considered very important.
Amid the ongoing stir over Bangladesh’s possible tour of India, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have started the process of ensuring security arrangements. According to some media sources, CAB will hold a review meeting with Kolkata Police on Thursday, in which the security of players, officials, spectators and media during the T20 World Cup will be discussed in detail.
