Joining host Fiona Bruce on tonight's Question Time panel were Labour's Emily Thornberry, Shadow Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Stuart Andrew, Lib Dem MP Layla Moran, and Chairman of Republicans Overseas UK Greg Swenson. As the political show got underway, Moran likened US President Donald Trump to an "international gangster" who will only respond to "strength". She also stated: "He's a bully... They stole our lunch money one time, we caved... why are we surprised that he did it again"

Meanwhile, a furious Thornberry said Trump's claim that European soldiers in Afghanistan avoided the frontlines was an "absolute insult". She added: "It's not a mistake. It's so much more than a mistake. It's an absolute insult. It's an insult to 457 families who lost someone in Afghanistan. How dare he say we weren't on the frontline? How dare he! We have always been there. Whenever the Americans have wanted us, we have always been there."

"How dare this man, who's never seen any action, who somehow or other, when there was a draft for everybody else in the United States, managed to avoid it, and yet now is commander in chief and knows nothing about how it is that America has been defended," she fumed. "I mean, seriously, it's an absolute insult."

Their comments come following the US leader's repeated threats to seize mineral-rich Greenland, which belongs to Denmark. However, in a major U-turn, Trump dropped threats of new 10 per cent tariffs against the UK and other European countries after a meeting with Nato Secretary-General Mark Rutte yesterday.

During the heated programme, Question Time viewers flocked to X to comment on the debate, with many lambasting Trump.

One person said: "It's not just Donald Trump's recent actions that prove he can't be trusted #bbcqt." A second added: "Trump has no respect for anyone or government that doesn't agree with him. Once you criticise, you are humiliated and have lies against you; he's a pathetic individual."

Someone else shared: "#bbcqt Thornberry & Leyla Moran are right to call out Trump for what he is."

Another added: "Trump will be gone in 3 years and everything he puts in place will be reversed, the midterms in November are looking very bad for Trump and MAGA #bbcqt."

Someone else penned: "Trump isn't keeping his friends close, though, he's alienating everyone #bbcqt."

Despite the backlash, some people on X have praised Trump over his U-turn.

Question Time can be streamed on BBC iPlayer.
