Leaders across the country paid tribute to his legacy, recalling his unmatched patriotism and his role in inspiring generations of Indians to stand up for independence and national pride.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the occasion by reflecting on the life and ideals of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. In his message, the Prime Minister highlighted Bose’s indomitable courage, unwavering determination, and unparalleled contribution to the nation. He described Netaji as a symbol of fearless leadership who believed strongly in decisive action and self-reliance.
The Prime Minister noted that Bose’s vision of a strong and independent India remains deeply relevant even today. According to him, the ideals upheld by Netaji continue to motivate citizens to work towards national unity, strength, and progress. By remembering leaders like Bose, the country reconnects with the values that laid the foundation of modern India.
Parakram Diwas is observed every year on January 23 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. The term Parakram signifies valour and courage, qualities that defined Bose’s life and struggle. The Government of India officially designated this day in 2021 to ensure that future generations understand and appreciate the sacrifices made by revolutionary leaders during the freedom movement.
The observance of Parakram Diwas serves as a reminder that India’s independence was achieved not only through negotiations but also through bold leadership, international outreach, and armed resistance, aspects strongly associated with Bose’s approach to freedom.
President Droupadi Murmu also paid homage to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his birth anniversary. In her message, she emphasised his immense influence during the freedom struggle and his ability to awaken a sense of courage, unity, and nationalism among millions of Indians.
The President highlighted Bose’s leadership of the Indian National Army and noted how it elevated India’s freedom movement to the international stage. Through his call for complete independence, Bose instilled self-confidence and determination in the hearts of people across the country. She stated that his ideals continue to inspire every Indian even in the present day.
One of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s most significant contributions was his leadership of the Indian National Army. Under his command, the INA became a powerful symbol of resistance against colonial rule. Bose believed that freedom could not be begged for and must be achieved through sacrifice and action.
The INA trials, held at the Red Fort in Delhi, played a crucial role in igniting public sentiment against British rule. In 2023, 21 unnamed islands in the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago were named after the 21 Param Vir Chakra awardees, further linking Bose’s legacy with India’s military honour.
In 2024, the Prime Minister inaugurated a major event at the historic Red Fort, the very site associated with the INA trials. These efforts reflect the nation’s commitment to preserving and promoting the legacy of leaders who played a pivotal role in India’s independence.
