A major train accident was narrowly avoided on Thursday when the Gonda–Asansol Express collided with a truck at a railway crossing in Jharkhand’s Deoghar district, leaving two bikers injured and disrupting rail services for nearly two hours, PTI reported.

The incident occurred at the Nawadih railway crossing when the level-crossing gate was open and the truck attempted to pass through. The truck was struck halfway across the crossing as the train entered the down line and collided with it.

Videos that surfaced showed the train hitting the truck and coming to a halt after the impact, which dragged the truck’s body into nearby vehicles. Two bikers sustained injuries due to the collision.

Railway officials told PTI there was heavy traffic near the crossing at the time, and the train entered the down line in the absence of a proper signal, resulting in the truck being hit while it was stuck at the crossing. Rail traffic on the Jasidih–Asansol main line was disrupted for around two hours.

Officials said there were no casualties and train services were restored after the damaged engine was removed from the site. A four-member committee has been constituted to probe the incident, and action will be taken against those found responsible.
