Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that state has decided to set up Centre of Excellence in collaboration with the World Economic Forum.
Sarma who is in Davos in Switzerland to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting stated in X, “In my meeting with the leadership team of @wef, we have decided to set up a Centre of Excellence in Assam in collaboration with the World Economic Forum on a theme of both national and state importance. We are also building a long term partnership with this exceptional platform so Assam can continue to leverage from major WEF assets such as annual summits in Davos and elsewhere.”
Sarma stated, “Last evening at@wef, I had a very fruitful meeting with Eugene Willemsen, CEO (International Beverages) and Caroline Berson, VP Govt Relations of@PepsiCo. I conveyed our plan to ensure assured institutional credit to our potato farmers through an exclusive tripartite agreement between SBI, Pepsi and the Govt of Assam. We also discussed the company’s expansion plan in Assam, reviewed progress of their Nalbari plant and how they could work even more closely our farming community.” The chief minister added, “Assam has adopted a multi-pronged strategy towards skilling. In the next few weeks, a dedicated Skill University will be inaugurated which can train 10,000 students annually”.
Sarma said, “ Assam is working proactively in creating dedicated clusters and areas for facilities such as Data Centres and our policies in this regard is at par with other States”.
He stated, “Wrapped up Assam's successful Davos debut as I met over 200 business leaders & interacted with a host of changemakers. I head back to Bharat with a lot of learning and with a lot of new opportunities unlocked for Assam. Will share the outcomes on reaching Assam”.
