Republic Day 2026: Preparations for the 77th Republic Day in India are in the final stages. The main program of Republic Day will be organized in Delhi. A parade will be organized on the duty path. Army, Air Force and Navy personnel will participate in this parade. Along with this, tableaux of different states, contingents of paramilitary forces and exhibitions of various departments will be taken out. This is one of the biggest national festivals of India.

Why is Republic Day celebrated in India?

Republic Day is celebrated on 26 January in India. On this day i.e. 26 January 1950, the Indian Constitution was implemented in the entire country. It is also celebrated as Constitution festival. On this day the Constitution was implemented for the first time in a democratic country. In the year 1930, during the Lahore session of Congress, the resolution of Complete Swaraj was passed. Along with this, a call was made to celebrate Independence Day on 26th January.

Who is the chief guest in the Republic Day 2026 parade?

This year, European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula Bon der Leyen will be the chief guests. The chief guest of the first Republic Day program was Indonesian President Sukarno Sen.

  • Serbia: Republic Day is celebrated here on 15 February. On this day the first fight for independence began in Serbia and the constitution was implemented.
  • Pakistan: In the neighboring country, Republic Day is celebrated every year on 23 March. Pakistan declared the country an Islamic Republic on this day in 1956.
  • Nepal: Republic Day is celebrated on 28 May in the Himalayan country Nepal. On this day, Nepal ended the monarchy and chose the path of democratic republic.
  • Apart from these countries, Republic Day is also celebrated in Azerbaijan, Italy, Philippines and Türkiye.
