A man was shot and killed by U.S. federal agents in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on January 24, 2026during a controversial immigration enforcement operation that has intensified protests and debates across the United States.
On the morning of January 24, federal law enforcement officers from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Border Patrol were conducting targeted immigration enforcement activities near West 26th Street and Nicollet Avenue South in south Minneapolis.
Video footage shared widely online appears to show a physical confrontation between the man and multiple officers before shots were fired. Federal authorities stated that the individual approached agents with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgunresisted attempts to disarm him, and was shot in what they described as a defensive action.
Local officials confirmed that the victim was a 37-year-old Minneapolis resident and American citizen. He was described as a lawful gun owner with a permit to carryand his only known prior interactions with law enforcement were for minor traffic violations.
