Global Leaders Unite to Celebrate India's 77th Republic Day: A Day of Unity and Friendship

Worldwide Celebrations of India's Republic Day

On Monday, Indians around the globe marked the 77th Republic Day, receiving warm wishes from prominent leaders such as US President Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Bhutan's Prime Minister. These greetings underscored the strong ties each nation shares with India.


Members of the Indian diaspora donned colorful traditional outfits to celebrate at various Indian missions worldwide, where the national flag was ceremoniously raised.


President Trump expressed his congratulations, emphasizing the historic bond between the United States and India. He stated, "On behalf of the people of the United States, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the government and people of India as you celebrate your 77th Republic Day. The United States and India share a historic bond as the world’s oldest and largest democracies."


French President Macron shared a nostalgic moment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media, recalling their shared experiences during the 2024 Republic Day celebrations. He conveyed his best wishes, stating, "My dear friend @NarendraModi, dear Indian friends, my very best wishes on this great day of celebration. See you in February to continue building together!"


In a message to President Droupadi Murmu, President Xi highlighted the ongoing improvement in India-China relations, noting their significance for global peace and prosperity. He remarked that fostering a relationship of mutual support is essential for both nations.


Bhutan's Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay also sent his greetings, expressing hope for the continued strengthening of their friendship. He stated, "I join the people of Bhutan in extending warm Republic Day greetings to PM @narendramodi Ji, the Government and people of India. This joyous occasion celebrates India’s inspiring journey and reflects the close bonds and shared values between our two nations."


In Beijing, Ambassador Pradeep Kumar Rawat raised the Indian flag and recited excerpts from President Murmu's address. The celebrations were filled with patriotic fervor, with attendees singing national songs like Vande Mataram.


A thematic exhibition showcased the history of Vande Mataram, emphasizing its role in India's freedom struggle, accompanied by various cultural performances.


In Shanghai, Consul General Pratik Mathur hoisted the tricolor, with over 400 attendees from the local Indian community and diplomatic corps present.


In Washington, Secretary of State Marco Rubio sent a special message, reaffirming the historic bond between the US and India. He expressed eagerness to collaborate on shared goals in the coming year.


In Singapore, High Commissioner Dr. Shilpak Ambule led the celebrations, reading the President's address to a gathering of over 1,200 community members, who enjoyed cultural performances.


In Japan, Ambassador-designate Nagma M Mallick unfurled the flag, followed by the singing of the national anthem and reading of the President's address.


In Sri Lanka, High Commissioner Santosh Jha raised the flag at India House, paying tribute to Indian soldiers at the IPKF memorial. The celebrations included performances of patriotic songs by the Sri Lankan Navy.


Sajith Premadasa, the Leader of the Opposition in Sri Lanka, also extended his greetings, commending India's commitment to democracy.
