A New Year refresh doesn't necessarily involve joining a gym or training for a half-marathon. The New Year can also offer the perfect opportunity for sprucing up the home, and with numerous sales continuing throughout January, it's a brilliant time for those looking to save some cash whilst injecting style into their living space.

Dusk is one home décor retailer whose price cuts feature discounted lamps, furniture and bedding, including the Simone 220 Thread Count Scallop Embroidered Edge Duvet Cover.

Now £40 reduced from £50, it's an excellent choice for those who favour a clean, white aesthetic to complement existing patterns or colours in the bedroom, whilst avoiding a standard, plain, straight-edged design.

Bringing a touch of romance and delicate charm, the duvet cover - which has been praised as being 'hotel quality' - boasts a 'beautiful' scalloped pattern along its edges that introduces sophistication and personality, reports the Daily Record.

The subtle scallops are also outlined with coloured trim, which creates additional dimension to the look and is available in various shades from berry to blue.

Whilst the £40 price tag refers to the double size, the cover is also on offer in king size (£48 from £60) and super king (£56 from £70). Customers can snap up matching pillow cases for £10 in the brand's sale here.

Regarding the finish of the set, the bedding is crafted from luxurious 220 thread count cotton sateen in 100% cotton, which provides a silky-soft feel with a subtle sheen.

However, with such silky material, customers have observed that, following washing, to achieve that crispness at the edges, ironing is essential, as one Dusk customer remarked: "So soft and comfortable, but be prepared to get your iron out if you want that scallop to be crisp at the edges after washing."

For a comparable style that may not demand quite as much maintenance, the Wylder Olive Blousey Cotton Ruffle Duvet Set from Next features ruffle edges, which tend themselves a bit more to not need quite as much ironing. Priced at £36 to £62, depending on size, the bedding similarly boasts coloured piping around the edges and is available in both olive and pink.

As an alternative, for smaller scallops, the Argos Home Washed Scallop White Bedding Set features a more understated trim in dark green along its wavy edge. Beginning at £18 for a single size, the bedding also comes in double, king size and super king.

With a modest price tag, it is manufactured from 100% polyester, rather than cotton, which may be a disadvantage for some people. However, whilst the Dusk bedding comes with a slightly steeper price tag, it's earned an impressive 4.9-star rating from customers, proving its exceptional quality.

One delighted buyer left a five-star review stating: "Best quality bedding we have had so will only buy from Dusk moving forward."

Another gushed: "I've been looking for a red edge duvet set for ages, this doesn't disappoint. Beautiful soft cotton, feels so soft to sleep in."

It's worth noting that the duvet cover doesn't include pillowcases, which caught one shopper off guard. They mentioned: "Only slight disappointment was that it didn't come with two pillowcases, which I thought it did."

Nevertheless, most purchasers were chuffed with their acquisition. One customer declared: "Hotel quality at high street affordable prices."
