Los Angeles, January 24. Nearly 100 religious leaders were arrested during a protest against US immigration enforcement at the US Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport. This information was given by Faith in Minnesota, the group that organized the demonstration.

According to the group, these religious leaders were taken into custody by local police after blocking the road in the Terminal 1 departure area of the airport. Organizers said protesters were demanding airlines, particularly Delta Airlines and Signature Aviation, stop cooperating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minnesota.

According to local media, 37-year-old American citizen and mother Renee Good was shot dead by ICE agent Jonathan Ross during an immigration operation on January 7, which has increased tensions. News agency Xinhua reported that after this shooting, daily protests are taking place in the Minneapolis area.

Organizers said religious leaders gathered at the airport to pray and share stories of people who have been detained by ICE. Faith in Minnesota said that so far about 2,000 people have been deported from the country from this airport. Union members say that ICE has also arrested 12 airport employees.

The demonstration was part of a larger movement Friday called “ICE Out of Minnesota: A Day of Truth and Freedom.” Under this, more than 700 businesses remained closed across the state. Organizers appealed to people not to go to work, not to shop and not to send people to school.

Meanwhile, some protesters also blocked the road that leads to the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building, where ICE offices are located. The demonstration continued for several hours, according to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office. Some protesters threw ice cubes at vehicles, breaking the windows, before police ordered them to disperse.
