Former Tottenham striker Mido urged his old club to secure Omar Marmoush's signature before the Egyptian joined Manchester City in 2025. The two sides are set to clash in the Premier League on Sunday, with Marmoush expected to feature for the away side in this crucial encounter.

However, the forward has been tipped for a switch to north London in recent weeks despite having spent only a year in Manchester. Pep Guardiola bolstered his attacking options in January by bringing in Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth for £64million. This move has raised doubts about Marmoush's position at the club, with Semenyo scoring three times and providing one assist in four outings for City so far. Fenerbahce have also emerged as suitors, with Turkish outlet Sabah claiming that the Super Lig outfit are willing to table £26million for the striker.

It's understood that Marmoush would prefer to stay in the Premier League, placing Tottenham at the head of the queue among interested parties. Former Spurs player Mido, who initially joined the club on loan before making the move permanent in 2006, appears to have been ahead of the curve in his advice to ex-chairman Daniel Levy to snap up the Egyptian before his Manchester switch.

Speaking on OnTime Sports, the fellow Egyptian revealed he had advised Levy to buy Liverpool's Mohamed Salah during his Basel days, and also to capture Marmoush's signature. He said: "I sent a text message via phone to Daniel Levy, the chairman of Tottenham, with whom I have a good relationship, to sign Mohamed Salah while he was playing in Basel.

"And I told him that it was necessary to sign Salah because he will be one of the best players in the world. The Tottenham chairman replied that he would follow up on the player, and I think he now regrets not signing him.

"A year and a half ago, I sent the same message to Daniel Levy, and told him to follow Omar Marmoush, and that he will be one of the best players in the world, but I do not think the club moved to include him."

Mido's predictions proved prophetic regarding a Premier League move for Marmoush, though to a different destination. The 26-year-old joined Guardiola's side from Eintracht Frankfurt last January for £59m, contributing to City's season finale and an FA Cup final against Crystal Palace.

Since his arrival, the forward has scored 10 goals and provided four assists across all competitions, totalling 42 appearances for the club. Now, he could be set for another January departure with north London as his likely destination.

Spurs are facing rivalry from Aston Villa as they seek to strengthen their attacking options before the transfer deadline. However, Besiktas manager Sergen Yalcin revealed on Monday that Tammy Abraham is expected to complete his move to Villa in the coming days to strengthen their attacking department.

The Lilywhites have completed the signings of Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid and left-back Souza from Santos. Additional firepower is needed for Thomas Frank's squad, however, with Dominic Solanke their sole recognised striker following Richarlison's injury.
