A Vinted seller has been left red-faced after discovering she accidentally sold her car keys online, along with a jacket. Ellie Cosgrove had listed her checked jacket on the second-hand clothing app, but was unaware that one of her two car keys had been left in a pocket.
The 27-year-old soon sold black and white garment for just £3, before shipping it off in the post. However, Ellie began frantically searching for the keys and only learned of its location when the buyer messaged her. The recipient The jacket's new owner sent her a message asking: "Thank you for the jacket but did you know your car key is in the pocket?"
"We'd been looking for the car key for ages and I blamed my boyfriend for losing it," Ellie, from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, told What’s The Jam.
She went on to admit: "I’m very stubborn, so it took everything I had to tell him it was in fact my fault. It must’ve been in the pocket a couple of months because I hadn’t worn it for a while.
"When I got the message, I honestly just thought, 'That’s about right’ because I always do stupid stuff like this. It was a, 'This could only happen to me' moment."
Ellie, who owns a travel business, had been leasing the car and was worried she’d have to pay a hefty fee to have the key replaced.
Fortunately though, the buyer kindly posted them back and even covered the cost of their safe return.
"I asked her to send it back and said I would pay for postage but she refused to send me her bank details," Ellie said.
"So the £3 she paid for the jacket ended up turning into £6. Honestly, everyone just laughed at me because it’s such a typical thing for me to do."
Writing in response to Ellie's TikTok post about the funny incident, one person shared a similar story: "I bought a coat and the pockets were full to the brim of dog treats."
A second added: "Found half a sausage in a coat once."
A third TikTok user recalled: "We had a return at work once with a set of keys in. I called the number on the return and they hadn’t been able to move the car for days."
Whilst a fourth said: "I sent my purse in the box as i had to go to the shop to get sellotape to seal the box and chucked my purse in the box to get out the way quickly."
To which Ellie replied: "Omg no way! Hope there wasn’t any money in it haha."
