Mangaluru: Burglars broke into the office of the Jogi Math Renovation and Management Committee located within the Kadri Jogi Math premises and stole silver ornaments and cash.

The thieves broke open the main door lock, entered the office, and then broke the cupboard lock. They stole silver ornaments weighing 511 grams, valued at around ₹90,000, along with ₹40,000 in cash. The total value of the stolen property is estimated at ₹1.30 lakh.

The committee manages the ornaments related to Dhoomavati Daiva and Lord Ganapati. These ornaments are usually kept at the house of Jagajeevandas in Kadri Mundana. As the Dhoomavati Nemotsava is scheduled to be held in the second week of February, the silver ornaments of Dhoomavati Daiva and Lord Ganapati were brought from Jagajeevandas’s house and kept in the office about a week ago.

According to the complaint, committee president Harinath M and Gopinath Jogi had locked the office and left at around 2 pm on January 26. On January 27 at about 11 am, Dinesh Jogi came to the office and noticed that the front door had been broken open. He then informed the other complainants.

On inspection, it was found that the lock had been broken. From the bag containing Dhoomavati Daiva’s ornaments, seven out of eight silver ‘gubbas’ were stolen. One silver half-moon-shaped ornament out of two, one large silver flower out of two, one small silver flower out of two, and one sandalwood container bowl were also missing.

When the cloth bundle containing Lord Ganapati’s ornaments was checked, it was found that one out of two silver trunk ornaments, three out of four silver bangles, one silver ear ornament, and two silver anklets had been stolen.

Based on the complaint, a case has been registered at the Kadri police station.
