The team of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has busted an interstate drug smuggling gang and demolished a secret drug manufacturing lab running in Mysore, Karnataka. In this action, narcotic drugs, cash and a luxury car worth about Rs 10 crore have been seized. So far four accused have been arrested in this case, all of them are residents of Jalore district of Rajasthan.
NCB had received intelligence that a huge quantity of narcotics was being transported in a Karnataka number Toyota Fortuner. On this input, on Wednesday, January 28, the vehicle was stopped in Palsana area of Surat district of Gujarat. During the search, about 35 kg of Mephedrone (MD) was recovered from the car. After this, a joint team of NCB and Surat Police raided the house of accused Mahendra Kumar Vishnoi in Dastan Residency, Palsana.
The NCB team recovered 1.8 kg opium, Rs 25.6 lakh cash and a large quantity of chemicals from here. In the investigation so far, Mahendra Vishnoi is being said to be the mastermind of this entire network. Investigation revealed that Mahendra Vishnoi had been involved in smuggling of opium and smack earlier also. While in jail, he had acquired complete knowledge of making synthetic drugs.
After coming out on bail, Mahendra Vishnoi rented a factory in Hebbal Industrial Area of Mysore and started a secret lab there. This unit was being run from outside under the guise of manufacturing cleaning chemicals. When the NCB team raided the factory in Mysore, a complete drug factory equipped with modern machines was found there. The factory has been sealed for forensic investigation.

According to NCB, three cases are already registered against the accused in Rajasthan and one in Gujarat. It has also been revealed that this secret lab was active since 2024 and till now many consignments of drugs had been sent to the market. In view of the increasing use of Mephedrone, NCB has issued Red Flag Indicators (RFI) to all the states, so that such clandestine labs can be identified in time.
