Investigation has revealed that this app was not just a gaming platform, but a well-planned ‘cyber scam’, which was compromising the personal data and hard-earned money of Indian users.
Wingo app mainly attracted people through ‘Color Prediction’ and betting.
Initial Greed: Users were initially given big returns on small investments to win their trust.
Data Theft: As soon as the app was installed, it took access to the phone’s contacts, gallery and messages.
Misappropriation of money: Once the user invested a large amount, the app would freeze the account or stop withdrawals under the pretext of technical glitch.
According to the IT Ministry (MeitY), thousands of complaints were filed against this app:

Apps like Wingo are often downloaded via ‘APK’ files or through YouTube/Instagram advertisements. Apps outside the Google Play Store or Apple App Store are always risky. The government has clarified that any digital platform that compromises national security and financial security of citizens will not be given a place in India.
