In June 2012, Ram Charan and Upasana Kamineni took seven rounds in a grand event in Hyderabad. Ram Charan, son of megastar Chiranjeevi, had already become a superstar with blockbuster films like ‘Magadheer’. Upasana, granddaughter of Apollo Hospitals founder Prathap C Reddy, is a successful businesswoman and vice chairperson of Apollo Charity. Both were friends for years, then fell in love and marriage united both the families. Life after marriage was full of responsibilities of films, business, social work and mega family.

After 11 years of marriage, the only question among the family and fans was when would they have children. But Ram Charan and Upasana never showed any haste. Both of them said many times that children come as per God’s will, they have no control over the timing. Upasana had talked about egg freezing in an interview, and when some people raised questions about not having children after marriage, she had replied firmly, ‘Can’t a woman decide when to have a child?’

Upasana’s Motherhood Journey

Upasana Konidela spoke candidly about her motherhood journey and decision in a heart-touching interview with Humans of Bombay. She had said, ‘I am very excited and feel very proud that Ram Charan and I decided to become parents when we ourselves wanted, and not when society or outsiders wanted. We have taken this step after ten years of marriage and I think this is the right and perfect time. Both of us have now reached a good place in our careers, are completely financially secure and we will be able to take care of our child well ourselves.

Be prepared mentally, emotionally and financially

In April 2023, when Upasana was pregnant with her first daughter, Cline Kara Konidela, she had said. Becoming a mother should not be a hasty decision. He said that it is right to have a child only when both the partners are mentally, emotionally and financially ready. Society often expects a child soon after marriage, but Upasana and Ram Charan did not follow that ‘traditional timeline’. He further said, ‘This was our completely mutual and joint decision. As a couple, we never let society’s pressure, family’s expectations or what outsiders say dominate our relationship. We did not take any pressure on ourselves. This decision shows the strength of our relationship and also shows how we will raise our child with love, understanding and on our terms.
