When the treasury of Banke Bihari Temple of Vrindavan was opened after 54 years, everyone was surprised. The 160 year old treasury had not been opened for 5 decades. An iron and a wooden box were found in the treasure. 4-5 locks were also found. Some empty jewelery boxes were found inside a wooden box. A letter was also found, in which a date of 2 February 1970 is written. A silver umbrella has also been found.
Many officials were on the spot to open the temple treasury. The door was cut with a grinder in his presence. The committee also went inside the temple, in which the Civil Judge, City Magistrate, SP City, CO Vrindavan, CO Sadar and all four Goswami of the Math were also present.
The Goswamis of the temple say that the real door of the treasury is not known yet. There is a legend that the door is inside the floor, on which a stone is kept. No one has found that either. It was difficult for people to stay there because of the dust. There is only mud inside. The items that have been seen have been noted. There is a lot of soil inside. The committee will hold another meeting on the treasure, after which further searches will be conducted.
The treasure is where the sanctum sanctorum is. It is kept in the room nearby. Such claims were being made that there could be snakes and scorpions here. When the team went inside to search the treasure, there was also a snake catching team there. The treasury of Banke Bihari temple is near Toshakhana. This treasure is under the throne of Banke Bihari. When the treasury was opened for the last time, silver sheshnags and gold urns were found. Some memoirs were also kept in the name of Rupanand and Mohan Lal ji.
The treasury of Banke Bihari Temple was last opened in the year 1971. The jewelery and other items kept in the treasury were kept in a box and kept in the bank locker. The court had ordered sealing of the room. Due to tussle between the temple management and the servants and due to security reasons, the treasury was not opened for so long. The treasury was closed for the last 54 years due to the orders of the High Management Committee constituted by the Supreme Court and security rules.
People associated with the temple management say that thefts took place twice in the years 1926 and 1936. To avoid theft, the Goswami community had also made a small opening to close the door. In the year 1971, the court said that the door should be locked and sealed. From then till now the treasury remained closed.
