Chinese actress Zhang Yuqi is facing accusations of having used a surrogate, allegations made by the former wife of her ex-husband, businessman Yuan Bayuan.

According to ToutiaoYuan’s former wife Ge Xiaoqian has filed a complaint accusing Zhang of using surrogacy services in 2016. Ge claimed that although Zhang announced the birth of twins with Yuan in 2017, records show the two children were born 85 days apart.
Ge also submitted videos and photos, alleging that in 2016, before she and Yuan divorced, Zhang interfered in their marriage and frequently entered her apartment. She further claimed that the actress used her cosmetics and personal belongings without permission.
Zhang has remained silent in response to the allegations.
Since Tuesday, multiple brands have announced the termination of endorsement contracts with the actress. content featuring Zhang has also been deleted or hidden from these brands’ websites and social media platforms.
China banned surrogacy in 2001 over legal and ethical concerns. Actress Zheng Shuang previously saw her career collapse after it emerged that she had used surrogacy services in the U.S.
Zhang had been a popular figure in livestream commerce. According to publicly circulated rate cards, she earned 540,000 yuan (US$77,646) for advertising videos lasting one to 20 seconds, 600,000 yuan for 21-60 seconds, and 800,000 yuan for videos longer than one minute.
Now 39, Zhang is best known for her roles in Stephen Chow’s films “CJ7” and “The Mermaid.” In recent years, she has primarily appeared on reality television programs.
Zhang has been married twice. She married director Wang Quan’an in 2011 and divorced in 2015 following Wang’s prostitution scandal. A year later, she married Yuan, and the couple divorced in 2018.
