Efforts to form a new government in Manipur have been started. The President's rule imposed in the state is being removed. With this, political turmoil has once again intensified in this north-eastern state. The path to forming a new government is almost clear here. Today there will be a lot of stir in Delhi regarding Manipur.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Legislative Party meeting is going to be held in Delhi today at 3 pm. This important meeting will be held at BJP headquarters. The party leader will be elected in the legislative party meeting, that is, the name of the new Chief Minister will be announced.

Swearing in possible tomorrow after selection of leader

It is being told that after the selection of the leader of the legislature party, the new government can be sworn in tomorrow on Wednesday (February 4). In this way, the process of government formation will be completed in Manipur tomorrow with the swearing in of the new Chief Minister.

BJP has appointed National General Secretary Tarun Chugh as its observer for the election of leader in Manipur Legislative Party. There is also a possibility that after the meeting of the legislative party, all the MLAs of Manipur can go to Rashtrapati Bhavan to meet President Draupadi Murmu.

Who is leading in the race for Chief Minister?

According to sources, the names of Govind Das and T Vishwajit Singh are leading in the race for Chief Minister. 7-time MLA Govind Das has the support of former CM N Biren Singh. That's why he is ahead of Vishwajeet Singh in the race. It is believed that BJP may send former Chief Minister Biren Singh to Rajya Sabha.

In fact, BJP called the party and NDA ally MLAs in Manipur to Delhi on Monday to discuss government formation. All the MLAs expressed their consent regarding the formation of the government. After this the party has decided to call a meeting of the legislature party.

President's rule was imposed in February last year

Sources say that earlier the meeting of the MLAs was to be held in Imphal, but the MLAs belonging to the party from the Kuki community wanted to hold a meeting with the central leadership in Delhi. Therefore all the MLAs were called to Delhi.

So far, more than 260 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in the caste violence that broke out between the Meitei and Kuki castes in May 2023. Due to the bad situation and not being able to handle it, on February 13 last year, Biren Singh resigned from the post of Chief Minister and then the Central Government imposed President's rule in the state.

BJP has a total of 37 MLAs in Manipur, which has a 60-member assembly. NDA's allies also have 6 MLAs from NPP and 5 from Naga People's Front (APF). For the first time, President's rule was imposed in Manipur for 6 months on February 13, 2025. Then in August 2025 it was extended for another six months.
