Phone Overheating Solutions: Nowadays, overheating of smartphones has become a common problem. Operating the phone in extreme heat, playing games continuously or the phone overheating during charging creates problems for the users. Many times the phone becomes slow or even switches off automatically. But now there is hope of getting relief from this hassle.

In fact, engineers at the University of Houston have developed a new thermal management technique, which works like a thermal diode and can help in keeping phones as well as electric vehicles and other battery-powered devices cool.

Why do devices overheat?

The problem of overheating is common in current smartphones and other portable devices. The biggest reason for this is that thermal energy can spread in any direction in conventional materials. That means the heat coming out of the phone’s processor or battery reaches back to the internal components of the phone. Due to this, the temperature increases rapidly, the performance of the phone decreases and it also has a bad effect on the battery. In the long run this heat reduces the life of the battery.

How does this new technology work?

This new technology is based on the principle of thermal rectification. Through this, heat can be controlled and sent in only one direction. In simple words, this system removes heat in forward direction and prevents reverse heat flow. Due to this, the temperature inside the device remains balanced. For this, researchers have prepared a special structure using semiconductor material under magnetic field. This structure creates a one-way heat pathway, allowing heat to escape from heat-sensitive parts.

What benefits will the users get?

With the help of this technology, a new and more effective thermal management system has emerged. This can significantly reduce the risk of overheating in smartphones, electric vehicles, satellites and high-performance AI systems. The impact of overheating on the battery life and reliable performance of the device will now be reduced. Not only this, with the advent of this technology the devices can be easily used even in hotter areas.
