New Delhi: Fruits are considered to play an important role in maintaining good gut health. Fiber-rich fruits not only strengthen the digestive system but also provide essential nutrition to the body. Among these fruits, banana is such an option which people of all ages include in their diet.
Be it children’s health, post-gym diet or weight loss plan – banana is considered an easy and healthy snack in every situation. Banana, which is sweet in taste, easy to digest and keeps the stomach full for a long time, is also said to be beneficial for gut health. But the question is, is it better to eat banana directly for gut health or is it better to take it in the form of banana shake? Let us know the expert’s opinion.
Ayurveda experts believe that the form in which banana should be consumed depends on the need and lifestyle of the person. According to experts, banana shake can be beneficial for those who do gym or regular exercise. The reason for this is that when banana is taken with milk, the body has to work harder to digest it, hence it is important to be physically active. For those who want to maintain their gut health, eating bananas directly is considered better.
According to Ayurveda, chewing any food is best for digestion. During the process of chewing, food mixes with saliva, which activates digestive enzymes. When banana is chewed properly and eaten, it enters the stomach along with saliva and provides double benefits to the body. With this, not only is the banana easily digested, but all its nutrients are also provided to the body in the right manner.
When banana is taken in the form of smoothie or shake, the essential process of chewing is skipped. Apart from this, according to Ayurveda, the effect of milk and banana is different. Consuming two things with different effects by mixing them can slow down digestion. Due to this, the body becomes weak and there is a possibility of increase in Kapha dosha. As a result, the risk of problems like cold, cough, sinus congestion and allergies may increase.
According to experts, when banana shake enters the stomach, milk reacts with hydrochloric acid. Due to this the natural digestive process of the body can be affected. While drinking milk alone provides protein, the situation changes when taken with banana. Organic acids like malic acid and citric acid present in banana curdle the milk quickly. Due to this, digestion slows down and proper absorption of nutrients can also be affected.
If you want to include both milk and banana in your daily diet, then experts recommend adopting the second method. After a meal, chew the banana thoroughly and drink a glass of milk about two hours later. It is not necessary that banana shake suits everyone. Especially people who have stomach problems, they should drink banana shake only after expert advice.
