Meghan Markle's As Ever brand has bumped up the price of its chocolate, which could spark a backlash among loyal fans. The Duchess of Sussex's company listed the confectionery on its website for $12 (£8.77) in December, ahead of the festive period. Now, Meghan's brand has raised prices by $2 (£1.46), bringing the sale to $14 (£10.23) for customers.

When the product was first released last year, fans criticised the extraordinary price of $12 for a bar. One wrote: "Lmao. Meghan Markle peddling $12 chocolate bars with flowers in it!" Another simply said: "$12 a bar. Absolute rip off."

One wrote: "There's no way I'd pay $12 for a random chocolate bar with weeds in it."

However, some fans have still been keen to buy the product, adding: "Meghan Markle's chocolate is a little expensive yet I still want to get it."

Bundles of the product are still available; however, the only way to purchase all four bars is for $185 (£134), which is a 'Valentine's Edit' which includes two jams, a tea, a candle and flower sprinkles.

Promoting the new collection, a description reads: "This limited-edition Valentine's bundle brings together some of our most beloved offerings alongside a brand-new chocolate collaboration, curated to be savoured slowly and shared generously. From morning tea to candlelit evenings, each piece is designed to turn everyday moments into something memorable."

For the occasion, Meghan teamed up with luxury chocolatier Compartés.

Meghan announced the new products were up for sale on January 31, writing online, "Our Valentine's Day As ever x @compartes collection is here!"

"A love letter in chocolate, featuring our new Signature Chocolate Collection with our three beloved bars and introducing our newest delight, our exclusive Strawberry Dark Chocolate with Brut, available only in the collection."

Meghan has long been a fan of Valentine's Day and last year, she celebrated alongside Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, with posting pictures of a red and pink-themed breakfast.
