Free LPG Cylinder: The budget increased assistance for LPG connections and refills for poor families. Under the Ujjwala Yojana, the process for obtaining a deposit-free connection, a free first refill, and subsidies has been simplified.
Free LPG Cylinder: On February 1, 2026, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget. She provided information about various schemes for people from different sections of society, and special attention was also paid to the interests of women. Even today, many women in the country still cook food on mud stoves using firewood.
To free them from this hardship, a separate amount has been allocated in the budget for free cylinders. In the 2026-27 budget, separate resources have been allocated to provide LPG to poor families. Learn who will benefit from this government scheme and how.
What has changed for LPG in the budget?
This time, the budget has allocated Rs 9200 crore to provide LPG connections to poor households. This amount has been set aside to further strengthen the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. Along with this, Rs 1500 crore has been allocated for Direct Benefit Transfer, ensuring that the assistance reaches the beneficiaries' bank accounts directly. The government is ensuring that there are no financial obstacles for poor and needy women in obtaining LPG connections. Under the scheme, a deposit-free connection is provided, making the initial cost almost zero.
How to benefit from the Ujjwala Yojana?
Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, more than 10.41 crore families have already received LPG connections. After the new budget provisions, the target is to further increase this number. Under this scheme, beneficiaries receive essential items like cylinders, regulators, pipes, stoves, and installation without any upfront payment. In many states, the first refill is also provided free of charge. In addition, beneficiaries also receive a subsidy on cylinder refills, which reduces the cost of subsequent refills. This allows poor families to easily use LPG.
What is the application process?
If you don't currently have an LPG connection at home and belong to an economically weaker section of society, you can benefit from this scheme. You can apply online through the official Ujjwala Yojana website or submit the form at your nearest LPG distributor. You will need to provide documents such as your Aadhaar card, proof of address, and a required declaration form. The entire process is quite simple. Once the application is complete, the connection is provided immediately.
