In the last few years, Instagram Reels has created its own identity in the world of social media. This format of short and attractive videos has made many topics like education, entertainment, fitness, lifestyle and general knowledge reach the people rapidly. This is the reason why Reels has become the most used feature of Instagram today.
Seeing its growing popularity, Meta also tested a Reels-focused layout for Instagram in India last year. Actually, Instagram Reels works on a special recommendation algorithm. This algorithm shows the next content based on the user’s activity, such as which reels they watch completely, which ones they watch repeatedly, which videos they like or comment on.
Many times it happens that similar videos start appearing again and again on the user’s feed or such content starts appearing which does not match their interest. In such a situation, the fun of watching reels gradually begins to fade away. If your feed is showing excessive waste, unwanted trends, or content you no longer like, resetting the Instagram Reels algorithm may be a better option. This refreshes your feed and improves the overall user experience.
Actually, Instagram’s algorithm is completely based on user interaction. Many times we unknowingly watch a video completely or spend more time on a particular type of content while scrolling. These small things signal to the algorithm that we like the same content and as a result, similar videos get increased in the feed. Apart from this, user preferences also change with time. Content that seemed good a few months ago may now seem boring or annoying.
Keeping this problem in mind, Instagram has provided a built-in feature to reset the suggested content. For this, the user first has to open the Instagram app and go to his profile. After this you have to tap on the three lines menu given in the top-right corner. From here select the ‘Content Preferences’ option and then tap on ‘Reset suggested content’. Carefully read the information shown on the screen, accept the terms and finally confirm the reset.
After the reset is complete, Instagram gradually begins re-personalizing Reels based on your new activity. However, the company says that once this reset is done, it cannot be taken back.
