If you are planning to install a 3kW solar panel on your rooftop, you should know that in 2026, the cost of a 3kW on-grid rooftop solar system generally ranges from Rs. 1.5 lakh to Rs. 2.2 lakh. This cost includes solar panels, inverter, mounting structure, wiring, and installation.
The price may vary slightly depending on the city, brand, and installer. Many people install a system larger than necessary, which increases the initial cost. However, for an average home with a consumption of 300 to 500 units, a 3kW capacity is considered appropriate.
Is a government subsidy available for this?
The PM Surya Ghar Yojana provides subsidies based on different kilowatt capacities. If someone wants to install a 3-kilowatt solar panel, the scheme provides a maximum subsidy of up to Rs. 78,000 for systems of 3kW or larger. This amount is given directly to the beneficiary after verification. To avail of the subsidy, you need to apply through the authorized portal, and the installation must be done by a certified vendor.
