The Princess of Wales has spoken of the "importance of hope" amid moments of "fear and exhaustion" for those suffering from cancer. To mark World Cancer Day the princess recorded a special video message to reiterate her message of standing by those who have been diagnosed, as well as their families, by saying: "You are not alone".
With footage of the future queen's visit to the Royal Marsden in January last year, her first public engagement after announcing that she had entered remission, she said: "On World Cancer Day, my thoughts are with everyone who is facing a cancer diagnosis, undergoing treatment or finding their way through recovery.
"Cancer touches so many lives. Not only patients, but the families and friends and caregivers who walk beside them. As anyone who has experienced this journey will know, it’s not linear. There are moments of fear and exhaustion. But also moments of strength, kindness, and profound connection.
"Today is a reminder of the importance of care, understanding and hope. Please know you are not alone." The princess was diagnosed with cancer in March 2024, just weeks after a two week hospital stay following abdominal surgery. She then underwent preventative chemotherapy at the Royal Marsden Hospital and announced her treatment was finished in September 2024 in another highly personal video.
Last year, Kate released a message to mark World Cancer Day in 2025 but this year issued a video as she has increasingly spoken out about her own cancer and healing journey.
To mark her 44th birthday last month, Kate spoke of her gratitude for healing from cancer and how she is continuing to immerse herself in nature amid her recovery.
It came as shereleased and appeared the final instalment of the Mother Nature video series – Winter. In a personal reflection of her cancer journey, the princess said being able to heal in nature had allowed herto “Come to peace with our tears and discover what it means to be alive.”
The video was released just days before the first anniversary of her announcement at the start of 2025 that she was in remission from cancer. It came a day after she made a surprise appearance visiting a hospital to show support for under pressure NHS staff.
Meanwhile, the King, who is still receiving treatment for cancer, also marked World Cancer Day on social media. A part of his speech, which he recorded for Channel 4's Stand Up To Cancer, where he revealed his treatment schedule was being reduced, was reshared on social media.
He said: "I just wanted to ask you to join me today in finding a special place in your hearts, and your minds and prayers for the hundreds of thousands of people across our United Kingdom who receive a cancer diagnosis each year – and for the millions more who love and care for them."
