According to Dimsum DailyChen disclosed the decision in a video posted on social media, saying it was made with the full support of her husband. The couple have two sons: actor Jacky Heung, 42, and businessman Johnathan Heung, 39.

“This is my own money, and I will give it to whoever I want. Jacky and Jonathan get nothing,” Chen said, as quoted by The Star. “I have already given them what they need to make movies and start businesses.”

Chen has previously criticized both sons for what she described as a lack of business acumen and reiterated that she has no intention of passing control of the family’s assets to them. Doing so, she said, would be irresponsible.

Instead, Chen said a more prudent approach would be to gradually sell company assets and place the proceeds into a trust structure designed to benefit the next generation. She emphasized that her priority is long-term financial stability rather than preserving a traditional family succession model.

Further explaining her reasoning, Chen said wealth should be distributed based on contribution, character and values, rather than bloodline alone.

“My responsibility now is to ensure that my grandchildren grow up with security and opportunities,” she said, adding that she believes this approach would encourage greater independence among her children.

Chen, 67, is Heung’s second wife. The couple run China Star Entertainment Group. Heung, 78, is credited with helping launch the careers of major Hong Kong film stars, including Jet Li, Chow Yun Fat, Stephen Chow, Johnnie To and Andy Lau, according to Variety. In 2022, the South China Morning Post estimated his net worth at US$1.2 billion.
