Indian Defense Minister Launches Expedition to Mount Aconcagua

On Thursday, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh officially inaugurated a joint expedition to Mount Aconcagua in Argentina from South Block. Standing at 6,961 meters, this mountain is the highest peak in South America and the tallest outside of Asia. The expedition is being organized by the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) in Uttarkashi and the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports (JIM & WS) in Pahalgam.

The Defense Minister commended NIM and JIM & WS for preparing personnel to face challenges with courage, determination, and resolve. While wishing the team success, he emphasized that climbing this remote peak is not just a test of physical endurance but also a true measure of leadership, teamwork, and mental resilience, qualities that define India's finest mountaineers. He expressed confidence that the team members would successfully complete their mission on South America's highest peak, bringing pride to the nation.


Team Composition and Expedition Timeline

Rajnath Singh extended his best wishes to the team, expressing belief in their success during the mountaineering expedition. He noted that this achievement is significant, highlighting the remarkable nature of Mount Aconcagua as the tallest mountain in South America and outside Asia. He praised the team's courage and valor, stating that they deserve congratulations for their efforts. The six-member team includes highly trained instructors such as Colonel Hem Chandra Singh, Captain G. Santosh Kumar, Deep Bahadur Sahi, Vinod Gusain, Nabi Subedar Bhupinder Singh, and Havildar Ramesh Kumar. The journey is set to commence on Friday (February 6) and is expected to conclude by the end of the month.
