Sonitpur, Feb 7: The second day of the 95th annual state session of the Shrimanta Sankardev Sangha unfolded at the Jyoti–Bishnu Samannya Khetra, attracting thousands of devotees to this expansive venue for a three-day spiritual and cultural celebration.
Following a vibrant inaugural day, the event continued to see enthusiastic participation in various religious activities, discussions, and cultural showcases.
Spanning nearly 1,500 bighas, the venue features a grand ceremonial entrance, a unique flag altar resembling a large boat, a significant Namghar, and an extensive dining area that can accommodate around 12,000 devotees simultaneously.
The exhibition area, boasting over 1,100 stalls, remains a focal point, alongside the Swadeshi Mela, which offers a platform for local entrepreneurs and artisans to display their traditional products.
Organized by the Assam Small Industries and Commercial Centre in partnership with the Sonitpur District Small Industries and Commercial Centre, the Swadeshi Mela has seen a consistent influx of visitors on its second day.
Exhibits highlighting the heritage and history of Sonitpur district have also attracted significant crowds.
Notable attractions include replicas of the Baresohoriya Bhaona, Sootea Thana, the Dhekiajuli martyr memorial, the Hari–Har battle tableau, and the Kanyaka Agri Farm.
Cultural highlights of the session feature Ankiya Bhaona performances, with devotees likening the transformed Jyoti–Bishnu Samannya Khetra to a “second Baikuntha.”
The district administration has implemented stringent security measures, deploying hundreds of police and paramilitary personnel to maintain order throughout the event.
