UPI New Rules 2026: If you use UPI for everyday payments then this update is very important for you. Many new rules related to UPI system are being implemented from February 2026, the effect of which will be visible on all apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm and BHIM. The purpose of these changes is to make payments faster, safer and more reliable. Many major improvements are included, from transaction speed to security and user control.

Now UPI transaction will be completed in 10 seconds

Under the new rules, it will be necessary to complete the UPI transaction and its related API response in a maximum of 10 seconds. Earlier this time limit was up to 30 seconds, due to which payments often got stuck. API is the digital bridge that enables communication between your UPI app and the bank. Due to the speed of this system, payments will be smoother even during peak times. This will benefit both shopkeepers and customers.

Growing digital payment traffic will get support

The use of digital payments is increasing rapidly in the country and UPI is making new records every month. In such a situation, the pressure on the system has also increased. The new rules have been brought to reduce the problem of transaction failure during high traffic. Now processing is expected to be more stable on platforms like Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm.

Security checks and user controls will be strengthened

The security layer has been made more stringent in the new framework of UPI. Additional verification steps will be applicable especially in large amount transactions. A clear confirmation screen will be shown before payment so that money is not transferred by mistake. Managing and canceling auto debit and subscription payments is also being made easier. This will give users more control over their money.

Ban on inactive ID, failed payment and spam requests

UPI IDs that have not been used for a long time may be temporarily limited. If this happens, re-verification will be necessary to reactivate, which will reduce the risk of fraud. Now a rule has also been added to resolve failed or stuck transactions faster. In many cases, refund will be available within a few hours. Along with this, a limit will also be imposed on the number of collect requests i.e. notifications asking for money so that spam is reduced.
