WhatsApp Web now supports voice and video calling. Calling directly from the browser is available, along with screen sharing. This feature is currently rolling out to beta users and will soon be available to everyone.

WhatsApp has finally added a much-requested feature to the web version: it's now possible to make voice and video calls directly from the browser. For a long time, WhatsApp Web was limited to chatting and messaging, but it's gradually becoming a full-fledged communication platform.

Calling on the Web Launched

Launched in 2015, WhatsApp Web was always considered a lightweight version of the mobile app. Calling has been available on desktop apps since 2021, but browser users were deprived of it. Now, with the new update, call buttons will appear in every chat window, allowing one-to-one voice or video calls.

Privacy and Security Remain Untouched

The calling feature will be fully protected by end-to-end encryption. WhatsApp has used the same Signal protocol that's already present in the mobile and desktop apps. This means calls made through the browser will be equally secure.

Screen Sharing Benefits

The new update also adds the option to screen share during video calls. This will make tasks like office meetings, presentations, or remote support easier. Importantly, this feature runs in the browser, so it will also work on platforms like Linux, where there's no official WhatsApp app.

Gradual Rollout

Currently, this feature is available to WhatsApp Web Beta users. It will be added to the stable version in the coming weeks. This is a clear indication that WhatsApp is moving towards making the web platform not just a chatting tool, but a complete communication solution.
