UP government presented the budget, Suresh Khanna said- per capita income increased

The Uttar Pradesh government presented the budget for the financial year 2026-27 in the Assembly on Wednesday. State Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna, while presenting the budget of Rs 9 lakh 12 thousand 696 crore in the House, said that this provision will give a new impetus to the development journey of the state.

State’s economy continues to strengthen

Suresh Kumar Khanna claimed that the state’s economy is continuously strengthening. A significant increase in per capita income has been recorded and the unemployment rate has come down to 2.24 percent. The Finance Minister said in his address that during the previous and current tenure of the government, extensive changes have been seen in the state. Continuous efforts have been made in areas ranging from strengthening law and order, expanding infrastructure, attracting industrial investment, increasing employment opportunities, empowerment of women, skill development of youth, improving farmers’ income and poverty alleviation.

He said that according to the quick estimate for the year 2024-25, the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of Uttar Pradesh has been estimated at Rs 30.25 lakh crore, which shows an increase of 13.4 percent as compared to the previous year. Per capita income has reached Rs 1,09,844, which was Rs 54,564 in the year 2016-17. It is estimated to reach Rs 1,20,000 in the coming financial year 2025-26. The minister said that the state government has been successful in bringing out about 6 crore people from multidimensional poverty.

Referring to the agricultural sector, Khanna said that Uttar Pradesh is leading in terms of agricultural production in the country. The state has an important contribution at the national level in the production of crops like wheat, paddy, sugarcane, potato, banana, mango, guava, amla and mentha. An increase has also been recorded in the irrigated area. While in the year 2016-17, the irrigated area was 2.16 crore hectares, by 2024-25 it has increased by about 60 lakh hectares. Crop intensity has also increased from 162.7 percent to 193.7 percent.

Referring to the progress in the energy sector, he said that thermal power generation capacity has increased from 5,878 MW to 9,120 MW. Also, 2,815 MW solar energy projects have been established in the state, which is promoting green energy.

Before presenting the budget, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that this budget will prove to be a strong foundation towards the vision of Developed India-2047 and the creation of a new Uttar Pradesh. He described it as a budget of all-inclusive development being presented for the tenth consecutive time.
