Iran's senior security officer Ali Larijani met Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani in Qatar on Wednesday. There is a large US military installation in Qatar, which was attacked by Iran in June. This attack happened then. When the US bombed Iranian nuclear sites during the 12-day Iran-Israel war in June. Larijani also met on Tuesday with officials of the Palestinian Hamas militant group and Yemen's Tehran-backed Houthi rebels in Oman.

Amidst the ongoing tension between the two countries, America has sent the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, warships and fighter planes to the Middle East. Former President Donald Trump has said that sending another aircraft carrier to the area is also being considered.
