A popular snack sold by Farmfoods is being urgently recalled. Shoppers are being urged not to eat the item and to return it to their local store as soon as possible.

According to an alert from the Food Standards Agency (FSA), the supermarket is recalling its Ritz Cheese Sandwich product. It is said to contain milk, soya and wheat despite these ingredients not being noted on the label. The FSA describes the product as a "health risk" to anyone with an allergy to milk, soya or gluten.

The alert reads: "Farmfoods is recalling Ritz Cheese Sandwich product because it contains milk, soya and wheat (gluten), which are not emphasised on the label. This recall only affects products originating from Indonesia, and does not affect products originating from other countries."

It adds: "The product contains milk, soya and wheat (gluten), making it a health risk to those with an allergy or intolerance to milk, an allergy to soya or an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten, or with coeliac disease."

Point of sale notices are being displayed across Farmfoods stores that currently sell the Ritz Cheese Sandwich. Meanwhile, a notice has also been up on the retailers' website.

The FSA explains: "These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product. Please see the attached notice."

Anyone who has recently purchased the product, which weighs 91g, is urged to return it to their local store. The recall is applicable to all batch codes.

The FSA says: "If you have bought this product, and have an allergy or intolerance to any of the allergens listed, do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from which you bought the product for a full refund. For further information contact the Farmfoods Customer Services on 0121 700 7160."
