How to Get to Heaven From Belfast star Sinéad Keenan has confessed she felt nervous about a crucial scene in Netflix's latest comedy crime caper.
The new eight-part drama from Lisa McGee, the mastermind behind Derry Girls, centres on three women in their thirties investigating the puzzling death of their schoolmate, Greta (portrayed by Natasha O'Keeffe).
Keenan plays formidable mother-of-three Robyn, who teams up with Saoirse (Roisin Gallagher) and Dara (Caoilfhionn Dunne) on an urgent quest for answers spanning both the Republic and Northern Ireland.
Beginning in London and Belfast, the close-knit group's probe leads them to Donegal, the fictional village of Knockdara and even a Portuguese resort along the way, reports Belfast Live.
Actually shot in Malta, it's at this location where the threesome land in serious trouble following a confrontation with Booker (Bronagh Gallagher), a mysterious fixer who hounds them throughout the series.
Their showdown reaches a climax in a life-threatening moment on a boat, forcing them to escape on an inflatable dinghy that can barely accommodate the three of them.
In an exclusive chat with Reach, Keenan revealed this particular scene required substantial courage from her.
"I was secretly... probably not so secretly, quite nervous about it," she admitted, drawing laughter from her co-star Dunne.
"Secretly nervous?" she queried, amused. "You hid that well. God, you're an actress."
"Was it that obvious?" Keenan exclaimed. "Yes, Sinéad," Dunne confirmed bluntly.
Keenan erupted into further laughter, continuing: "That's the first time I've said that. I didn't realise I was that bad."
When pressed about what specifically made her anxious, she admitted: "Drowning. And I can swim! Which is the weird thing. But just drowning, death."
The cast also disclosed some fascinating behind-the-scenes details for the series, revealing that How to Get to Heaven From Belfast's Portugal sequences were filmed in identical locations to the 2024 box office hit Gladiator II.

Looking back on her previous collaborations with writer McGee, including a guest appearance on Derry Girls alongside the programmes London Irish and Being Human, Keenan remembered: "It's rare to have a writer on set every day.
"But she's there in a collaborative way as opposed to a controlling way. She has input into everything and she uses a lot of the same team, so everything and everyone for the greater good of whatever the project is.
"There's no ego with her, I think is fair to say. But it's all very collaborative, which makes it a really enjoyable place to work as well."
McGee's team-focused approach and remarkable comic sensibility are both prominently featured in the new Netflix series, which critics are already describing as a "must-watch".
How to Get to Heaven From Belfast is available to stream on Netflix.
