Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajneesh Verma stated that the driver, identified as 21-year-old Gaurab Singh, has been detained. An FIR has been registered against him under charges related to reckless driving and endangering public safety.
Investigators revealed that Singh is a Class 12 student who was returning from a farewell gathering with four friends when the accident occurred. Police said he had borrowed the car from a friend and possessed a valid driving licence at the time of the incident.
During questioning, the accused reportedly told officers that he became confused between the brake and accelerator pedals. He also claimed that a tyre burst may have contributed to the loss of control. Authorities said these statements are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
