Prayagraj: Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Council (UPMSP) has given such a revolutionary decision regarding the high school and intermediate examinations of the year 2026, due to which lakhs of students and their parents of the state have heaved a sigh of relief. The board has made it clear that about 53 lakh students going to appear for the examination this year will be given major relaxation from the strict rules of attendance. Now, despite 75% attendance being mandatory, no student will be debarred from the examination on the basis of less attendance.

Humanistic approach of UP Board: Now ‘attendance’ will not become a hindrance in future

UP Board is known across the country for its strictness and discipline. Under general rules, at least 75% attendance is mandatory to appear in the board examination. But due to adverse conditions in rural areas, farming season, illness or other family reasons, many students were not able to reach school. The Board believes that taking the examination is the fundamental right of every student and no meritorious year should be wasted merely because of poor attendance. The board has raised the slogan of “Student Interest Paramount” for the 2026 examinations.

53 lakh students will get opportunity, strict instructions given to principals

This year, a record 53 lakh students are appearing in the UP Board 10th and 12th examinations. Board officials have given strict instructions to the principals of all the schools not to withhold the admit card of any student citing lack of attendance. The Board has advised schools to look at the attendance of students with sympathy and pave the way for them to appear in the examination by granting special permission. The aim of this step is to reduce the ‘dropout rate’ in the state and keep students connected to mainstream education.

Admit card distribution process speeded up, updated on digital portal

With the issue of attendance resolved, the process of issuing admit cards has gained momentum. Schools in Uttar Pradesh were given additional time to update student data on the portal. Now schools will soon start downloading the admit cards and distributing them to the students. The board has cautioned the students that as soon as they get the admit card, they should check their name, father’s name, photo and subjects carefully, so that they do not face any technical problem at the examination centre.

Parents expressed happiness, all-round appreciation of the board’s decision

This decision of UP Board is being appreciated everywhere. Especially the parents of rural areas say that many times their children were unable to go to school due to compulsion, due to which there was a fear of a bad year in their mind. This leniency of the board has not only reduced the stress of the students but has also encouraged them to prepare in a better way. Education experts believe that with this decision, positive improvement can be seen in the results of board exams.
