Indian opener batsman Ishan Kishan was awarded the Impact Player Award in the dressing room for his impressive innings in the match played between India and Namibia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Thursday. Kishan laid the foundation of India’s batting by scoring 61 runs in just 24 balls in this match.
During this innings, Kamlesh Jain, Head Physiotherapist of the Indian team, while presenting the award said, “Today’s Impact Player award is a symbol of belief, hard work and mental strength. When he was out of the team for two years, he had the belief that whenever he came back, he would make an impact. Hard work and mental strength in domestic cricket gave him the opportunity to perform brilliantly. Today’s Impact Player is Ishan Kishan, who scored 61 runs in 24 balls.”
“Awesome, guys,” Ishan Kishan joked while receiving the award.
With this brilliant innings, India scored 209/9, with Hardik Pandya making a key contribution by scoring 52 runs in 28 balls. However, Namibia performed brilliantly in the powerplay and challenged by scoring 57/1. But then the Indian bowlers did wonders. Varun Chakravarthy (3/7), Axar Patel (2/20) and Hardik Pandya (2/21) bowled out Namibia for 116 runs and gave India a 93-run win.
With this win, India made it two wins from two matches in Group A and are level with Pakistan. Indian coach Gautam Gambhir congratulated the team and said, “Good job on today’s result. Ishan and Sanju got off to a great start. This is the kind of aggressive and courageous play we want.”
