AI Impact Summit 2026: The "India AI Impact Summit 2026," which began in New Delhi, is witnessing a unique confluence of technology. While global leaders are discussing artificial intelligence, India has also taken a major step to demonstrate its digital payments prowess. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has launched the "UPI One World" wallet for foreign guests. This facility is a boon for thousands of international travelers visiting India who want to avoid the hassle of currency exchange or carrying cash.
UPI will work without an Indian bank account or mobile number.
Payments are often a major challenge when traveling abroad, but guests attending this summit will not face this problem. With the "UPI One World" wallet, delegates from over 40 countries will now be able to make payments in India just like locals. Most importantly, they don't need an Indian bank account or an Indian mobile number to avail this facility.
According to a statement from NPCI, this trial project gives foreign guests the freedom to make person-to-merchant (P2M) payments. Whether enjoying Delhi's street food or shopping for something related to Indian culture, foreign tourists can now make payments with just a scan. This 'Made in India' technology is not only secure but also ensures instant payments, making the traveler's experience even more memorable.
Easy Availability at Airports and Summit Venues
If you're wondering how foreign guests can avail this facility, the process is very simple. This wallet is available through authorized PPI (Prepaid Payment Instrument) issuers. Travelers will receive this facility upon landing at New Delhi International Airport. Additionally, special arrangements have been made at Bharat Mandapam, the main venue of the Summit. An NPCI pavilion has been set up in Hall 14, at stalls 14 and 16, where visitors can activate this wallet.
Passengers can load money into this digital wallet at their convenience and make payments by scanning a QR code using the PPI-UPI application. This eliminates the need to carry cash everywhere or navigate the complexities of foreign exchange (forex). Furthermore, if there's any remaining money in the wallet, it can be transferred back to their original payment source in accordance with foreign exchange regulations.
The service is activated in a jiffy. Here's how
Using this service is as easy as using any social media app. Through the CheqUPI app, operated by Transcorp, passengers are ready to make digital payments within minutes. The process is as follows:
First, passengers download the CheqUPI app from the Play Store or App Store. Next, they fill out an application form, providing basic information such as mobile number, name, and email address. Uploading documents like a passport and a visa is mandatory for security purposes. A selfie is taken in the app to verify identity. Afterward, the user sets their UPI PIN and receives a unique UPI ID.
Travelers can then load money into the 'UPI One World' wallet using their international debit or credit card. Once this process is complete, the app is ready for payments. Travelers can load up to ₹25,000 at a time and are allowed to load the wallet a maximum of two times a month, for a total limit of ₹50,000.
