New Delhi: A tragic road accident in Dwarka, capital Delhi, destroyed the world of a family. The death of 23-year-old Sahil Dhaneshra has not only left his house deserted but has also raised serious questions on the danger of careless driving. The victim’s mother alleges that at the time of the accident, the accused teenager was making a social media reel while driving the SUV at high speed.

This incident happened on February 3 at around 12 noon near Lal Bahadur Shastri College. According to the police, a Scorpio SUV hit Sahil’s motorcycle. The collision was so strong that the bike rider died on the spot. A car parked on the roadside was also damaged in the accident and a nearby taxi driver Ajit Singh was seriously injured, who was immediately admitted to IGI Hospital.

Sahil’s mother made serious allegations

Sahil’s sole guardian, his mother Inna Makan, while talking to the media, said that the accused had gone out with his father’s Scorpio car to shoot a reel with his sister. He claims that the speed of the vehicle was very fast and it was being driven in the wrong lane. He said that the accused was doing stunts in front of the bus and was busy making videos, during which his car collided head-on with Sahil’s bike.

Inna Makan alleges that the driver did not apply brakes even after the collision, due to which the accident became more serious. He says that this is not just an accident but a criminal negligence. The mother demanded justice in a video message, saying that she raised her son alone for 23 years, but someone else’s negligence took away her life. He has appealed to the society and media to provide justice.

Underage drivers and legal action

Investigation revealed that the youth driving the Scorpio was 17 years old and did not have a driving license. The police arrested him and presented him before the Juvenile Justice Board, from where he was sent to the observation home. Later, citing board exams, he was granted interim bail.

Police have registered a case under sections 281 (rash driving), 106(1) (causing death by negligence) and 125(A) (endangering the safety of others) of the Indian Judicial Code. All three vehicles involved in the accident have been seized and examined and nearby CCTV footage is also being scrutinized.
