OpenAI, the company that creates AI chatbots, said in its ‘mission statement’ in 2023 that the company aims to develop artificial intelligence that is safe and beneficial to humans. Also the objective will not be to earn financial gain only. But now this situation is reversed. Now, it seems that the company is not focusing much on developing safe AI. In its latest internal revenue disclosure form, released in 2025 and covering 2024, OpenAI has deleted the word “secure” from its mission statement, among other company changes. The change comes at a time when the company has rapidly transformed from a non-profit organization to a for-profit business. (Photo Courtesy – Pinterest)

The company set up a for-profit subsidiary in 2019 under Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sam Altman to develop the AI model and raise the necessary funding. Microsoft had initially invested one billion US dollars in this initiative. By 2024, this amount had increased to more than 13 billion US dollars.
