On Thursday, cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar visited Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde at his official residence, Nandanvan, located in Mumbai. During this meeting, Tendulkar, along with his wife Anjali, extended an invitation for their son Arjun's wedding ceremony. The discussion also touched upon various sports-related topics.
The day before, Sachin and Anjali met with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to invite him to their son Arjun's wedding with Saaniya Chandhok. Invitations have also been sent to several high-profile figures, including President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
Arjun and Saaniya became engaged in August of the previous year. At 26 years old, Arjun has played five matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Mumbai Indians (MI), taking three wickets and scoring a total of 13 runs. He currently plays for Goa in domestic cricket, having made his debut for Mumbai in 2021.
Before the IPL 2026 mini-auction last year, Arjun was traded from the Mumbai Indians to the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and is expected to play for LSG this season. The Mumbai Indians, who had to let Arjun go, acquired leg-spinner Mayank Markande from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Initially, Arjun was bought by MI for Rs 20 lakh during the IPL 2021 mini-auction but did not play that season. He was later purchased again for Rs 30 lakh in the IPL 2022 mega-auction, making his debut in 2023 with three wickets in four matches.
In IPL 2024, under new captain Hardik Pandya, Arjun played only one match. During the IPL 2025 mega-auction, he went unsold initially but was later picked up by MI at his base price of Rs 30 lakh, yet he remained on the bench that season.
Saaniya Chandhok comes from a distinguished family, being the granddaughter of Ravi Ghai, the Chairman of the Graviss Group. She has maintained a close friendship with the Tendulkar family, especially with Arjun's sister, Sara Tendulkar, for many years.
